Border Crossing: The Slow Boat to Laos

Posted on December 19, 2012February 6, 2013

This was a two day Journey from the Thai border town of Chang Khong to Luang Prabang in Laos, with a stop over in Pakbang.

Small boats took us on a short journey across the Mekong into Laos, where we were issued our visas.

The boats were of varying niceness, and seemed to be based on the luck of the draw. The first day we had a very comfortable boat that was almost half full.

The second day we were not as lucky. (Not pictured: late-comers who had to sit in the engine room!)

Both days, we were treated to lovely scenery and glimpses into life along the Mekong.
